There’s no better place on the Upper East Side for year’s-end contemplation than a seat on a waterfront bench at the Carl Schurz Park. Most benches are occupied on this December 30th, as locals look to the flowing East River waters to ponder the old – and plot the new.
Uppereast.com caught up with a few of them to hear what New Year’s Resolutions they had brewing. Though he prefers not to be mentioned by name, one gentleman advises: “Watch that portfolio!” as he walks briskly past. “There’s going to be a crash.” And on that note, let the ’07 forecasting begin!
“I want to go out dancing at least once a week in 2007. I like Country/Western dancing. It’s a little bit like the Jitterbug,” says Jim Quinn, 65, of East 80th Street.
“My resolution is to go running every day. Run three miles, or play squash, every day,” says Kate Hessenthaler, 22, of East 83rd Street.
“This year, I want to live each and every day to the fullest!” says Alison Paskert, 22, of East 83rd Street.
Resolution: “I would like to complete my associates degree at Monroe College and start my career as a computer technician. And, I hope to get my own apartment this year,” says Freddy Guity, 20, of East 124th Street and Lexington Avenue.
“To stay focused! My goal this year is to make a lot of good changes in my life,” says Ravek Nemeth, 25, of East 104th Street and Lexington Avenue.
“This year, I want to try and make some more money. I’m tired of using my age as a way of getting away with just doing the bare minimum. I want to stop doing that and act more professional,” says Charlie Panoff, 23, of East 91st Street and Second Avenue.
“I’d like to stay more in the moment, like my dogs do, this year. I don’t want to do as much projecting in my life. Just live in the moment,” says Kathleen Mahaffrey, who says she’s “a tad past puberty” and lives on East 83rd Street.
